About Connect 4 & how to play

Drop your discs and race to line up four in a row before your opponent sees it coming.

On a standing 7-by-6 grid, you and your opponent take turns dropping discs that fall to the lowest open slot. First to line up four of their own — across, up, or diagonally — wins. Anyone can start in ten seconds, but under the hood it's a real game of threats and traps.

Hum hosts it. Take on the computer at Easy, Medium, or Hard, or flip to 2-Player and pull a friend up to the same screen.

How to play Connect 4

1. Tap a column (or press 1–7) to drop your disc into it.
2. Discs fall to the lowest empty slot, stacking upward.
3. Players alternate, one disc at a time.
4. Line up four of yours — across, up-and-down, or diagonally — to win.
5. Play the CPU at three difficulties, or switch to 2-Player for a friend on one device.

Tips & strategy

• Grab the center column early. Middle discs feed into more possible four-in-a-rows than anywhere else.
• Always scan for the opponent's three-in-a-row and block it before you build your own.
• Set a "double threat" — two ways to win at once — and they can only block one.
• Think about what your move hands the other player: the slot right above yours is theirs next.
• Watch the diagonals. They're the easiest winning line to miss, for both of you.
