Slide and merge your way to 2048.
Slide the tiles to merge matching numbers and reach 2048.
About 2048 & how to play
Slam matching tiles together and keep doubling — 2, 4, 8, all the way to that shiny 2048.
Every move shoves every tile as far as it'll go, and when two of the same number collide they fuse into one worth double. Two 2s make a 4, two 4s make an 8, and up you climb. The catch is that each swipe also drops a new tile onto the grid, so the board is always creeping toward full — and once it's jammed with numbers that won't merge, the run is done.
Pip runs this one, and it's exactly the kind of tidy little brain-knot Pip likes. Reach 2048 and you've technically won, but almost nobody actually stops there.
How to play 2048
- Swipe, or use the arrow keys / WASD, to slide every tile one direction at once.
- When two tiles with the same number touch, they merge into double the value — and that number lands on your score.
- A fresh 2 or 4 appears after every move, so your space keeps shrinking.
- Keep merging upward — 2, 4, 8, 16 — and push for the 2048 tile.
- It's over when the board is packed and nothing next to anything can merge.
Tips & strategy
- Pick a corner for your biggest tile and never let it leave. Top-left is the classic home.
- Mostly slide in just two directions. Swiping all four ways scatters everything into chaos.
- Build a descending staircase of numbers beside your big tile so they line up to merge in order.
- Break your corner only as a genuine last resort — one careless swipe can unravel the whole board.
- Peek ahead at where the next tile might drop; keeping an edge full stops tiles stranding in the middle.
