About Slide Puzzle & how to play

Slide the scrambled tiles around the one empty space until the picture snaps back together.

A picture gets cut into tiles, one space is left empty, and the whole thing is shuffled. You slide tiles into that gap, one at a time, to work the image back into order. It's a deceptively plain little format that's been stumping people for over a century — there's always a way back to solved; finding it takes patience.

Pip hosts it. Tap a tile next to the empty space to slide it, and hold Peek whenever you want a look at the finished picture.

How to play Slide Puzzle

1. The picture is split into tiles with one empty space, then scrambled.
2. Tap a tile in the same row or column as the gap to slide it (and any tiles between) over.
3. Keep sliding to nudge each tile toward its home.
4. Hold Peek any time to see the completed picture for reference.
5. Get every tile back in order to solve it.

Tips & strategy

• Solve in order — finish the top row first, then the next, working down.
• Once a row is done, try not to disturb it while you work the rest.
• For the last two tiles in a row, learn the little rotation trick that swaps them in without breaking the row above.
• Use Peek early to fix the target picture in your head before you start.
• Think a couple of moves ahead — landing one tile usually means positioning the gap first.
