About Typing Race & how to play
Type the passage clean and fast, and watch your words-per-minute climb.
A short passage appears, and the clock follows your keystrokes as you type it out. Your speed ticks up live in words per minute, and mistakes count against you — so this rewards smooth, accurate typing over frantic hammering. It's genuinely good practice disguised as a high-score chase.
Hum hosts it, and the timer only starts when you do, so there's no pressure until your fingers are ready. Finish the passage to lock in your WPM, then run it back to beat it.
How to play Typing Race
- Read the passage on screen and start typing it exactly as written.
- The timer kicks off with your first keystroke — no rush until you begin.
- Type each character in order; correct letters move you forward, mistakes get highlighted to fix.
- Your speed updates live in words per minute as you go.
- Finish the whole passage to record your run. Faster and cleaner means a higher WPM.
Tips & strategy
- Accuracy beats raw speed. Every typo you backspace costs more time than typing it right would have.
- Don't look down at the keyboard — trusting your fingers to find the keys is the biggest speed unlock there is.
- Find a rhythm instead of sprinting in bursts. Smooth and steady almost always wins.
- Keep your eyes a word or two ahead of what your fingers are doing.
- Loosen your hands. Tension slows you down and makes more mistakes than the clock ever will.
